Drake's "Dreams Money Can Buy" has some very interesting production. In the beginning we hear vocals for the intro that have either been eq'd so that most of the high end has been taken off, or placed under a low pass filter. What comes after the intro are different sequences of kicks over the vocal sample. While the kicks are playing we also hear oscillators mimicking a low bass sound. After the kicks and bass come in we hear snares that have been eq'd to bring the high end out along with chops of the vocal that we hear in the beginning of the song. Produced by 40.

I used my own sounds for the found sound assignment. I recorded empty water bottles hitting my desk through my cell phone. After I converted that to an mp3 file i sent it to myself and chopped it. I then found another sample online that sounded great with my chops. I threw some drums on it and turned it into a full beat. I believe it was successful because it's one of my better beats.

The intro to "nas is like" last for 15 bars and then transitions into the verse which is then 40 bars which then transitions into the hook which is 16 bars. Every verse and every hook has the same amount of measures. Nas samples his own song "it aint hard to tell" from his first album "illmatic" in his hook.

MF DOOM's "Doomsday" samples sade's song "kiss of life" He chops her vocals and has the melody of her song playing throughout the entire song

I used the track from my peer remix for my self remix because it was easier for me. I already knew what I wanted to do with it so I was able to finish it faster. All I did was change the sample.

I think sampling without permission is acceptable as long as you give credit to the original creator and as long as you're not making a profit without permission.

        Mobile recording             documentation

For the Mobile song I used the MPC software as usual. The way I decided to approach the assignment was to use the recorded sound as a sample. What I did was record and empty water bottle tapping on my desk. Once i recorded that I chopped the sound and created a pattern/sequence with it. After laying down the pattern/sequence I made the beat around it and submitted it. This assignment was not played live. It was sequenced and recorded.

      Midi song documentation

For the midi song i got my midi from the mpc. The mpc is a software, but it also comes with a piece of hardware that is specifically tailored to the software. I use the mpc renaissance as my midi along with the akai mpk 49 in order to lay basslines down. I always use kicks, snares, samples, and ocsillators. I am a sample based producer so it is very common that I do so. That is why it was no different for this assignment. I do feel that the end result was satisfying because I like the way all of my music sounds, but if I had unlimited time and ability, the one thing I would do is tweak the bassline a little bit.

The link above is an example of a realistic recording by robert johnson. If you know the history of mr. Johnson and that era it is obvious that the technology to enhance his recordings didnt exist. You can tell that it was recorded live due to the quality of the guitar and his voice.

The youtube link above is an example of a hyperreal recording. Three little birds was recorded live in a studio you can hear it in the instruments because of the imperfect timing that sounds precise. There is a lot of swing in the high hats. The reason it is hyperreal is because of the audio effects placed on his voice and on the instruments. It isnt all completely natural.

The link above is completely surreal due to all the automation put into it and audio effects on the instruments and voices. You can tell that it is all fake and unnatural.
